Five Items of Note
The New Yorker’s fall reading issue. Need I say more?
Red toes. When I’m at my AM barre class pushing through the burn, I tend to focus on little details around the room i.e. a third of the class is in an alo onesie. I’m also amused by the fact that almost everyone’s toes are painted a bright red. Myself and the instructor included.
The Mountain Soho kitchen. A friend and I got a table at Thomas Perry’s Mountain in Soho, sequel to his Michelin-starred Brat in Shoreditch. We sat right at the kitchen and while I’d usually ask to be seated elsewhere, I was automatically mesmerised by their charcoal stove. It was a calm, systematic kitchen that I was impressed and very distracted by. We had the cucumber and green strawberries salad, raw scallop and monkfish, shishito peppers, spider crab omelette and the roasted duck as a main with the wood fired rice (a texture lover’s dream but slightly flat on the taste front). The kitchen was just as much an experience to watch as the food was to taste.
Tencel fabric. You know what my favourite pieces in my closet have in common? They’re made of Tencel fabric. Tencel is the commercial name for lyocell (or modal), derived from wood pulp and mostly praised for its soft feel that mimics silk or cashmere. It’s also wrinkle resistant and body temperature regulating. I went down a rabbit hole with this one, especially in light of the latest research on negative effects of polyester. I realised my gravitation toward this fabric when I found myself looking to restock on those pieces specifically. I’d highly recommend you give it a try and see how it feels on your skin. It has become my favourite fabric to sleep in. Eberjay does a great Tencel pj.
Loewe vegetable keychains. I love a food/fashion crossover and keychains are such a welcomed token of individuality in a time where we’re all dressing the same. This asparagus keychain is very reminiscent of the farmer’s market to me, which I love. They also do a radish, pea pod and other garden insects!
Thank you for humouring my indulgences. Until next time.
